When a Central Florida man handed over his driver’s license during a traffic stop, the officer allegedly found it coated with a controlled illegal substance which led to the discovery of a stash of drugs in the vehicle.

According to reports, on the evening of January 21, a man was driving in Haines City, Florida, when an officer spotted his vehicle and saw a tailgate blocking the visibility of the license plate. A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver pulled over.

When the officer started talking to the driver, he asked to see his driver’s license. When the man handed it over to the officer, he reported that there was white powder covering the surface of the card. When asked if the license had the remnants of drugs, the man reportedly said no. He reportedly added that there were no narcotics in the truck.

According to reports, the University of Georgia’s defensive back was arrested last weekend after allegedly driving dangerously while heavily intoxicated.

20-year-old Javon Bullard is the defensive back for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Just before 3:00 am on September 24, Bullard was reportedly driving a Lexus in Athens.

When an elementary school teacher was accused of driving under the influence, the woman allegedly handed a credit card to the officer instead of her driver’s license.

50-year-old Lee Anne Huff teaches 5th-grade math and science in the Pinellas County School district. She instructs children at the Leila G. Davis Elementary School in Clearwater, Florida.

Around 2:30 am on June 11, Huff was reportedly sitting in the driver’s seat of her vehicle with her head draped over the steering wheel.

The driver of a commercial truck traveling through Moorpark was pulled over for suspicion of having manufactured license plates leading to his arrest for several infractions.

On May 28, a motorcycle officer reportedly saw a semi-truck displaying a license plate that appeared to be bogus.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and spoke with the driver about the plate with the counterfeit characteristics, which had the word “Califas” in the spot designated for the state name. The photo provided by the Sheriff’s Office shows an unevenly shaped black rectangle with raised yellow lettering that was lined up in an irregular fashion.

When the authorities came across a New Jersey man working as a Lyft driver, they allegedly found that he did not possess a valid driver’s license and that his DMV record displayed more than a few suspensions of his privilege to operate a motor vehicle.

On Saturday night, 57-year-old Leith Crossen was accused of using his Volkswagen Jetta to pick up and transport passengers for the Lyft ride service when he was not legally permitted to do so.

Crossen allegedly took a passenger to their destination on Long Island, and after departing the location his car ran out of gas.

On Monday, a Baltimore man went to take the driving portion of the testing required to get his driver’s license, but before performing the exam he was taken into custody on several charges after marijuana and a loaded handgun were found in the vehicle he was operating.

When 22-year-old Reginald Wooding Jr. was sitting in a car waiting for his turn to take a road test to get his driver’s license one of the employees of the Motor Vehicle Administration allegedly detected the scent of marijuana. She reported it to a trooper who was on site and Wooding was approached regarding the odor.

After Wooding allegedly willingly gave the trooper a small package containing marijuana that he had it was believed that there was enough justification to warrant searching the automobile.

blurryThe Orange County Sheriff’s Department has issued a bulletin that their task force will be in full effect on July 4 to combat the increased number of individuals potentially driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI). The task force will be deploying deputies and officers to numerous checkpoints throughout Orange County in anticipation of people getting behind the wheel after having too many drinks. The CHP also plans on having additional officers in the field.

Planning ahead is always the best idea. If you are planning on drinking, always designate a sober driver. If you have been drinking and think you may be under the influence, always arrange for an alternate method of getting home. Likewise, if you see someone who is drunk and is attempting to get into their car, take away their keys and help them make other arrangements to getting where they are going safely. Calling a friend, family member, or a taxi is always a better choice than getting behind the wheel.

camera rollUnder California Vehicle Code §12500, driving without a valid license can result in a citation. Lacking evidence of liability insurance is a violation of Vehicle Code §16028 and a first-time offense can result in a fine of between $100 and $200, plus penalty assessments.

With all of the cards we’re required to keep track of, sometimes we misplace our driver’s license. If your glove compartment is anything like mine, finding a credit card-sized evidence of liability insurance amid a disorganized mess of papers, manuals, sunglasses and loose change is going to be difficult. Add an impatient police officer standing next to your car, and you’re going to get nervous. This nervousness can be misconstrued by the police officer as you being under the influence of a drug and may result in a breath and/or blood test. Even if you are not under the influence, an arrest can often jeopardize your employment and any professional licenses you may hold.

When a judge orders you not to drive, it’s a good idea to not immediately get behind the wheel as you’re leaving court.

At Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach, individuals charged with driving-related crimes such as DUI were brought before a judge who notified them that their licenses had been suspended. As such, they were no longer permitted to drive. As they were leaving, deputies followed them out of the courtroom to find out how they were getting home.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents of Orange County to plan ahead for festivities tonight that involve alcohol. The agency will be deploying multiple DUI checkpoints throughout the area with the intention of arresting anybody who is driving a vehicle who is under the influence of alcohol.

Sheriff Sandra Hutchens recommends planning ahead to get a safe ride home at the end of the night. Such plans can include designating a sober driver, using a taxi service, or calling a sober friend or family member to give you a ride home. They also recommend taking car keys away from any individual who appears to be intoxicated so they are unable to drive.
