Azusa School District Worker Accused of Lewd Acts on Minor

A woman working for the Azusa School District has been accused of having a long-term sexual relationship with a teenage student.

On May 3, the Azusa Police Department received a tip regarding the possibility of a staff member of the school district having engaged in illegal sexual behavior with an underage student.

While looking into the claim submitted, the police reported that at first, they were unable to validate the allegations. After several days of digging into the details, they believed they had uncovered information causing them to suspect that 28-year-old Jessica Marie Esparza may have been the adult in the acts. It was also purported that the alleged involvement between Esparza and the student sparked up in 2016.

The teenager that they have determined as the victim of the alleged abuse was 16-years-old at the time it allegedly started, and the police purported that the sexual engagements with Esparza had gone on for over a year.

On Monday, Esparza was placed under arrest for the allegations, and she may be prosecuted for one count of unlawful sexual intercourse, one count of sodomy and sexual penetration of a person under 18, and two counts of oral copulation of a person under 18.

It was ordered that Esparza would remain in jail for the accusations until such a time that she is able to post $50,000 bail.

As a result of the situation, the school district put Esparza, who worked in a part-time position, on administrative leave.
