Daycare Worker Killed Infant and Abused Many Children

A daycare worker who tends to children in her residence was arrested after a baby died while in her care, and the authorities suspect she has abused several other children.

53-year-old Dana McNair lives in an unincorporated area of El Paso County. Though she reportedly does not hold a state license, she provides childcare in her house for several youngsters. The children reportedly range in age from 3-months to 7-years-old.

In early February, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office was notified about an infant at McNair’s home who was unresponsive.

Law enforcement rushed to the address, and when first responders arrived, they performed lifesaving procedures and took the baby to the hospital. A short while later, the infant was pronounced deceased.

An investigation of McNair’s home daycare facility was opened.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, in addition to the probe into the baby’s death, they were also assessing the environment in which McNair was caring for the youngsters.

Though the press release did not disclose the reason behind the allegations, the investigators believed they had evidence of McNair abusing many of the children in her care. They also asserted that she was directly responsible for the infant’s death.

Late in the morning on June 15, agents with the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division went to McNair’s residence and placed her under arrest.

McNair was booked into the El Paso County Jail. She was charged for suspicion of 16 counts of misdemeanor child abuse connected to the other youngsters at the daycare, and one felony count of abuse of a child resulting in death.

McNair paid her $50,000 bond, and she was released from custody.

The woman’s neighbors reported that McNair and her family are very nice and that they appear to be a typical family.
