A father was arrested last week when he was allegedly caught street racing in West Houston with two youngsters in the back seat of the vehicle.
According to Houston authorities, the amount of street racing taking place in the area has increased exponentially and has led to approximately 100 recent arrests.
Around 5:00 PM on March 27, a deputy constable on patrol spotted two vehicles traveling on the road at a speed that led him to believe they were racing each other.
When trying to perform a traffic stop, the cars went in different directions.
The deputy constable was successful in stopping one of the vehicles and identified the driver as 25-year-old Kevin Quinteros from Atascocita. Two children, one age 7-months-old and one 3-years-old were reportedly sitting in the back seat of the car. A woman was in the passenger seat, and the deputy constable identified her as the mother of the children.
It was asserted that Quinteros had endangered the children by allowing them to be in the car while reportedly taking part in the illegal activity, and Quinteros allegedly admitted he was racing with the other vehicle.
Quinteros was taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail. He is expected to face charges for racing on a highway, in addition to two counts of child endangerment.
Quinteros was later released on a $2,100 bond.
The other driver that was allegedly racing Quinteros has not been located or charged at this time.
Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman gave a statement saying people taking part in the racing seem to “underestimate the danger of what speed can do.” He additionally pointed out that several hundreds die each year as a result of it.
