San Bernardino County Deputy Charged for Child Sex Abuse

A man who spent his career as a sheriff’s deputy in Southern California has been fired and taken into custody for allegations that he continuously sexually abused an underage boy.

50-year-old Jeremie Russell Cox is from Yucca Valley, California. He has worked as a deputy in San Bernardino County for 25 years. Since 2005, he has been on an assignment as a deputy at the Morongo Basin Jail.

According to the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office public release regarding the matter, a male accused Cox of sexually abusing him on more than one occasion when he was under the age of consent.

The sheriff stated that the situation was disturbing because it appears that someone working for the department conducted themselves “in a manner that contradicts what we stand for as a law enforcement agency.”

The authorities announced that they are going to do a thorough investigation into the allegations. They do not believe Cox was on duty during the times that he allegedly committed the offenses.

Cox was taken into custody by detectives from his own department on September 17. He is expected to be charged with oral copulation with a minor 14 years old or older, lewd or lascivious acts with a child who is 14 or 15 years old, and continuous sexual abuse of a child.

Cox is being held at the Central Detention Center on $750,000 bail. He was relieved from his position as deputy as a result of the accusations.

He was scheduled to appear in Superior Court on September 21 regarding the allegations. If Cox is convicted as charged, he could spend many years behind bars.
