A 27-year-old high school teacher in west-central Florida is facing criminal charges after she was accused of developing a relationship with a student that allegedly led to them having sex in her classroom.
According to reports, a science teacher at Riverview High School and one of the enrolled students started texting each other and sharing personal information last September. As things progressed, the texts reportedly became inappropriately sexual in nature, and recently, the pair allegedly began having sex. On May 16, another student at the school who claimed they knew about the reportedly ongoing sexual relationship between the teacher and pupil notified the authorities to report the situation. Deputies from the Hillsboro County Sheriff’s Department began conducting an investigation.
The student who was allegedly intimate with the teacher spoke to the authorities, and it was reported that he told them he and the woman had intercourse multiple times in the past few weeks, including on the morning of the interview. He alleged that they were together in her classroom before the school day officially started, and they had sex before the other students arrived.
A warrant for her arrest was issued, and the woman was taken into custody and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail. She is currently facing preliminary charges of three felony counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor. She spent the night in jail and was released the next day after posting a $45,000 surety bond. It was reported that if she is convicted as charged, in addition to a possible sentence of 15 years in prison, she could be ordered to register as a sex offender.
The Sheriff’s Office reported that they are still investigating the situation.
