A Florida mother and her boyfriend are facing many charges after allegedly viciously abusing, torturing, and neglecting children in numerous ways, including forcing one of them to drink boiling water.
On May 9, the mom notified the authorities after her boyfriend allegedly assaulted one of the children with a mop handle. After reportedly hurting the 5-year-old, the man left on a four-wheeler.
When the police found the man, he was placed under arrest on suspicion of nearly two dozen charges, including aggravated child abuse, neglect of a child causing great bodily harm, and failure to report child abuse, abandonment, or neglect. He is currently being held in the Volusia County Branch Jail without bond.
The authorities took recordings from the surveillance cameras in the residence. When they viewed the footage, the police reported that on the day the 5-year-old was allegedly struck with the mop handle, the child’s mother mopped the spot where the abuse happened.
Multiple instances of torture and abuse were reportedly seen in the video recordings. The child was allegedly bound by the legs and arms and left in a dog kennel for several hours at a time.
According to reports, two additional children in the home were victims of abuse. One of them was allegedly forced to drink boiling water.
When the children were given medical attention, it was reported that one of the victims had 46 visible injuries, a fractured skull, and multiple internal injuries.
On June 4, the mother was taken into custody. She is currently facing 25 charges, including child abuse, child neglect, false imprisonment, failure to report child abuse, conspiracy to commit those crimes, and evidence and witness tampering. It was reported that she is not currently listed on any jail rosters.
According to the sheriff’s office, the children were removed from the home and are currently staying in a safe place.
