9th-Time DUI Suspect Smashed into Pursuing Police

A pastor with eight prior DUI’s has been accused of driving intoxicated and using his vehicle to try to kill deputies by smashing into their police car.

David Jones is a pastor at Hilton Oaks Baptist Church in Ferndale, Michigan.

Just before 1:00 am on October 6, Jones was reportedly at a convenience store near I-75.

It was reported that while he was in the market, Jones allegedly did something suspicious that led to the authorities being notified.

Deputies with the Arenac County Sheriff’s Office went to the scene to check out the situation.

The officers reported that Jones was in the driver’s seat of his car when they arrived.

Jones allegedly refused to cooperate with the officers, and he reportedly took off in his vehicle while they were trying to talk to him.

The man reportedly left the driveway and drove directly across the street. Jones allegedly rammed his car into a business building at the address.

The deputies were still in their vehicle, and Jones allegedly aimed his car at them. The man reportedly accelerated and smashed into the police car while the officers were still inside.

The sheriff’s deputies were not hurt in the accident, and they exited their car and approached Jones.

The man allegedly continued to resist, and the police reported that it was necessary to break a window in Jones’ car so they could apprehend him.

Jones, who was most recently charged for DUI in August in Oakland County, was placed under arrest.

He is facing charges for suspicion of two counts of attempted homicide, one count of fleeing and eluding, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Jones was incarcerated on a $1 M bond.
