An employee at a correctional facility in Louisiana was arrested and fired after it was discovered that he was allegedly bringing narcotics into the jail and selling them to inmates.
According to reports, the police suspected that someone was bringing drugs into the St. Tammany County Parish Correctional Center and selling the narcotics to some of the inmates.
The authorities began to investigate the situation, and they suspected that one of the officers employed at the facility was bringing the drugs in.
Though the reasons they suspect him of the trafficking have not yet been disclosed, the police set their sights on a 21-year-old deputy from Slydell who has worked with the St. Tammany County Sheriff’s Office for approximately eight months.
During their investigation, the deputy’s vehicle was searched. The authorities allegedly discovered a stash of marijuana, suboxone, cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and a gun in the automobile.
On September 27, the deputy was removed from his position with the sheriff’s office. He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center, where he was formerly employed. He is facing several charges including two counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, one count of possession with intent to distribute suboxone, one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, one count of possession of drug traffic proceeds, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, one count of introducing contraband into a penal facility, and one count of malfeasance in office.
The St. Tammany County sheriff gave a statement about the incident and included that they “will not tolerate illegal drugs being brought into our facility.”
