Facility Director of Childcare Center Abused 4-Year-Old

The former facility director of a Georgia daycare was arrested for allegedly physically abusing a 4-year-old who was left in her care.

The Sunshine Child Learning Center is a daycare facility in Snellville. The director of the facility was, until recently, a 67-year-old woman who began working there in 2019.

On September 8, an incident reportedly occurred between the director and a 4-year-old child who had been coming to the center for 3 years. According to reports, the child was on the floor when the woman allegedly struck him several times in the head. She allegedly picked him up off the floor and shook him violently before tossing him back onto the ground.

The parents of another child at the center informed the boy’s parents they saw the incident as it occurred.

The alleged victim’s parents, who have all of their children enrolled at the center, confronted the director and demanded to see the surveillance footage from the time and date the incident allegedly occurred. The woman did not produce it for six days, and when the parents viewed it, the child’s mother used her phone to make a recording of it.

Around 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, the authorities were notified about the situation, and officers from the Snellville Police Department went to the daycare center.

The woman, who has lost her job as a result of the accusations, was taken into custody and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail. She is being charged with one count of felony second-degree cruelty to children. She was released from custody after she posted a $7,500 surety bond.

The Snellville Police Department reported that the investigation is ongoing.
