Intoxicated Dad in Hit-and-Run After Taking Daughter to School

The father of a 16-year-old girl is facing numerous charges after he allegedly drove her to school while intoxicated and then reportedly crashed into vehicles and left the scene.

On the morning of October 15, a man from Waverly, New York, gave his 16-year-old daughter a ride to school. After they arrived and she got out of the vehicle, the girl’s father pulled away and was involved in an accident with two parked cars. According to reports, he drove off after causing the crash, but someone near the scene saw what happened and wrote down his license plate number.

The authorities were notified about the alleged hit-and-run and were told that the cars involved were heavily damaged. Officers from the Waverly Police Department went to the scene to investigate, and the bystander shared the license plate number with them. They used the information collected, and it led them to a residence where the vehicle with the matching plate was parked. It was reported that when the driver talked to them, the officers believed he was intoxicated. They also learned that his teenage daughter had been a passenger in the car prior to the crash and asserted that he put her in danger by having her in the vehicle.

The suspect was taken into custody. He is facing multiple preliminary charges including one first-degree class E felony count of first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, one class A misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child, one misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated, one misdemeanor count of aggravated driving while intoxicated, and one misdemeanor count of violation of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage. He is scheduled to appear in court next month.
