Intoxicated Mom Left Injured 9-Year-Old Son at Crash Scene

A 9-year-old boy was severely injured and left unconscious after his mother, who left the scene without him, got into a car crash that the police believe was caused by her driving under the influence of alcohol.

Early in the morning on October 9, a 39-year-old woman was driving her vehicle in a residential neighborhood in Dallas with her son riding as a passenger in the back seat. The mother, who was allegedly speeding at the time, reportedly slammed into two vehicles parked on the side of the road. People came out of their homes to see what happened, and they reported that the woman was yelling, and she seemed to be trying to start the wrecked vehicle.

A woman, later identified as the driver’s sister, drove up and tried to help put the unconscious boy in her vehicle, but it proved to be too much of a struggle. When first responders got to the scene, both women left in the sister’s car and left the youngster behind.

Using the license plates from both cars, the police found the boy’s mother at her sister’s residence. They reported that she did not pass standard sobriety tests, and she expressed concern that the incident would hinder her future nursing career.

The woman, who has several prior convictions for DUI, was taken into custody and booked into the Dallas County Jail. She is facing preliminary charges of collision involving serious bodily injury, and intoxication assault with vehicle serious bodily injury. According to records, she is being held without bond in the North Tower section of the facility.

The youngster, whose head was split open in the crash, was diagnosed with a brain bleed, air in his brain, and a fractured skull. Reports indicated that he is in critical condition.
