A Florida man was arrested on multiple charges after he was arrested for allegedly found with drugs in his vehicle including enough fentanyl to kill over 50,000 people.
On the morning of September 17, a deputy with the Hillsboro County Sheriff’s Office was near I-75 when they performed what they expected would be a routine traffic stop. They identified the 38-year-old man and found out that he was a convicted felon in Florida. The deputy saw that the man was holding an object between his knees, and it was identified as the type of torch often used for smoking drugs. According to reports, the man told them he had a history of methamphetamine use.
Backup deputies arrived, including a K9, who alerted the law enforcement agents that there were likely drugs in the vehicle. A search reportedly revealed stashes of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and marijuana, in addition to a digital scale, and a pistol. The authorities reported that the fentanyl he was allegedly carrying was enough to kill 51,500 people.
The suspect was taken into custody. He is facing many preliminary charges including one felony count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one felony count of felon in possession of a firearm, one felony count of armed trafficking in fentanyl in the amount of 28 grams or more, one felony count of armed trafficking of between 14 and 28 grams of amphetamine, one misdemeanor count of possession of a less than 20 grams of cannabis, and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held without bond in the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office – Falkenburg Road Jail.
The authorities reported that they are still working on the investigation of the case.
