On March 21, a man was driving a Mercedes in Palm Bay, Florida, with his girlfriend and three children in the automobile.
An on-duty officer with the Palm Bay Police Department was on the same road when they reportedly saw the vehicle whiz past at more than double the posted speed limit. The driver also allegedly almost crashed into a dump truck as the car weaved in and out of different lanes. The dump truck had to maneuver quickly to avoid being hit.
A traffic stop was performed, and when they walked up to the vehicle, the police noted that there were three children in the back.
When they identified the driver, who initially exited the car and walked up to them, the police learned that the man’s license was suspended.
The officer informed the driver that he was going 100 MPH, but the driver disputed the allegation and said he was only going 70. The posted speed limit was 40 MPH. The man reportedly informed the officer that he needed to get his girlfriend to a job interview at Taco Bell on time.
The North Lauderdale man was taken into custody and booked into the Brevard County Jail. He is expected to face charges of felony child endangerment without great bodily harm, felony driving while license is suspended- habitual offender, and misdemeanor reckless driving.
He was incarcerated in lieu of a $12,500 cash or surety bond and released two days later. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 18 regarding the charges.
There was no mention of whether the woman made it to her job interview.
