A 43-year-old man from Northern California is facing multiple charges after reportedly trying to flee from the police on a bicycle when they were pursuing him for allegedly stealing items from a store.
On the evening of November 27, employees of a store in Colma believed someone walked out of the establishment with merchandise they didn’t pay for. When they stepped out the front door, they noticed that officers in a Colma Police Department vehicle were patrolling the shopping center.
It was reported that the workers got the attention of the officers, and they told them that a man stole items from the store. They pointed to a man with a bicycle that was still in the vicinity and told the officers they believed he was the suspected thief.
The police saw the man walking with the bike, and when they tried to approach, he reportedly mounted it and rode away before they could detain him. Additional police officers went to the location to help find the suspect. When they searched the surrounding areas, they found a man in some shrubbery nearby, and they believed he was the person they were looking for.
According to reports, when they tried to talk to the man, he would not provide them with his identity. The police allegedly found he had several credit cards and identification cards, in addition to a concealed dagger.
The man was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail. He is facing preliminary charges for possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting and delaying an officer, possession of stolen property, carrying a concealed dirk/dagger, misappropriation of lost property, and a felony warrant.
The total amount for the items the suspect was accused of stealing was $183.66.
