Man with 2 DUI Arrests in 4 Months Held Without Bail

A man who was previously arrested for allegedly barreling into the crowd at the Bakersfield Christmas Parade with over triple the legal BAC was arrested again last week for reportedly driving under the influence.

On December 7, a 72-year-old man from Bakersfield was parked near the path of the Christmas Parade. It was going to start soon, and crowds were gathering to watch the event when the man reportedly got behind the wheel of his truck and backed up. The vehicle reportedly entered the area where they were standing and struck one of the people, who was seriously injured in the accident.

The police reported that a test revealed his BAC was 0.28, and the man was arrested for four counts of assault with a deadly weapon, two DUI counts, and one count of obstructing or resisting a peace officer.

On April 17, the man was reportedly bringing his truck to a Ford dealership to have a tire repaired. When he showed up at the shop, one of the employees believed they detected the smell of alcohol coming from him and they called the authorities. They also reported that it appeared he had wet his pants.

When officers arrived at the dealership, the man was still on site. They noted that his pants still looked wet, and they believed he displayed several indications of being intoxicated. When the man was asked if he had been drinking alcohol, he allegedly said he drank before he left his house.

It was reported that the police found a bottle of vodka in the man’s bag, and though it was not full, they believed it looked like some of the liquid had spilled.

The man, whose BAC was reported as 0.24, was incarcerated without bail.

According to reports, he has pleaded not guilty in both cases.
