Man with Gun Held Family with Children Hostage

A man in North Carolina was arrested after a 6-hour standoff for allegedly holding people hostage in a residence and threatening to shoot them.

According to reports, around 3:00 AM on May 21, the Spindale Police Department was notified about gunshots that were believed to have been fired inside a home.

Officers were dispatched to the address, and when they got there someone told them that there were people, including children, that were still inside the house with the suspect. They were informed that the suspect allegedly intended to shoot any law enforcement that came to the residence.

Deputies from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Rutherford Police Department went to the location to work with the Spindale officers on the investigation. They found one of the family members who lives in the residence walking around the area outside the home, and they spoke with them to gather as much additional information as possible. They confirmed that others were being kept in the house against their will.

The team decided it would be best if they set up a little bit away from the home so that they didn’t risk further agitating the suspect. The Rutherford County Emergency Response Team joined them at the site.

Members of the family inside the residence were released, and two of them were taken to the hospital for treatment.

When they tried to find him, the officers learned that the man was no longer in the home.

It was reported that approximately 6 hours later, the police were informed that the suspect had gone back to the home. Law enforcement quickly responded.

The man was taken into custody and incarcerated. He is facing multiple charges including two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm in the city, assault with a deadly weapon with a minor present, two counts of communicating threats, injury to real property, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, interfering with emergency communications, damage to property, and assault on a female.

He is currently being held in lieu of a $140,000.00 bond.
