A 41-year-old Florida mom may face charges for driving under the influence after she was allegedly found unconscious behind the wheel of her vehicle at an elementary school.
At approximately 7:30 AM on October 31, a mother and her child arrived at Treadway Elementary School in Leesburg. It was about an hour before the day’s classes were going to start.
It was reported that her daughter went into the building, but the woman remained in her car on the campus.
Approximately an hour and a half later, a passerby noticed the woman was still at the school in her car with the engine running. She was reportedly asleep in the driver’s seat.
The person went into the school and informed the staff about the situation.
The deputy who works at the school assisted the principal, and they walked to the woman’s car together to investigate the report.
According to reports, when they got to the vehicle, the woman was leaning forward on the steering wheel and appeared to be asleep.
The deputy reported that he had to wake her up and that when she talked to him, she spoke in a manner that made him think she was under the influence.
When the mother talked to the deputy about what was going on, she reportedly said she was reading and fell asleep in the car.
After taking a field sobriety test, it was determined that the woman was not sober, but she did not smell like she had been drinking alcohol.
The woman was placed under arrest and booked into the Lake County Jail. She is facing preliminary charges for suspicion of DUI. She was held in lieu of a $1,000 bond.
