When an officer reportedly encountered two men in the middle of a sexual encounter in a St. Petersburg park they were both placed under arrest for the alleged public display.
Just before 10:30 pm on June 30, an officer with the St. Petersburg Police Department was in Unity Park.
According to the city Parks and Recreation site, the small recreational area features “a great neighborhood playground for St. Petersburg’s younger residents.”
The officer noticed two men in the park, and he believed they were in the midst of public sexual activity.
When he approached the men, he identified them as 50-year-old Daniel McCleary, and Braedonton resident Donald Engstrom, 59.
According to the narrative in the police report, it was noted that Engstrom had his “sexual organs in a public place or on the private premises of another or so near thereto as to be seen from such private premises.” McCleary was named as his partner in the affidavit.
Engstrom, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time, talked to the officer about the situation. It was reported that the man confirmed that the pair were engaging in coitus, and McCleary allegedly gave a similar admission.
Both men were taken into custody and booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
Engstrom, who has one prior conviction for driving under the influence, is expected to face charges for misdemeanor indecent exposure for the allegations.
McCleary was charged for the same infraction as his counterpart.
While McCleary has an extensive rap sheet including charges for an array of offenses, and Engstrom has one DUI, both were released on their own recognizance while awaiting their court appearances.
