Stores Lost Over $36,000 Worth of Items in Theft Spree

A man in Delaware is facing a multitude of charges after he was accused of going on a theft spree for several months and taking over $$36,000 worth of merchandise from retailers.

During a period spanning from mid-March until early August, multiple stores in New Castle County began reporting thefts that sounded like they might have been committed by the same suspect. The authorities were notified about missing merchandise from stores such as ACME, Best Buy, Burlington, Cabela’s, Lowe’s, several Marshalls and Old Navy stores, New Balance, Nordstrom Rack, Staples, T. J. Maxx, and a few establishments that specialize in children’s clothing and items. When the police began investigating, they reported at least 20 different thefts, and the missing merchandise was valued at more than $36,000.

After digging deeper, the police reportedly found that there was one main suspect, and he had different people assisting with the alleged shoplifting. On August 8, while at a Ross store that reported being robbed, the man they believed was the suspect was seen in the vicinity. He was reportedly a passenger in a vehicle with two other people. The car was searched, and items that looked like some of the merchandise that was reported stolen were allegedly discovered.

All three suspects were arrested. The man is facing multiple charges including four felony counts of shoplifting over $1,500, two felony counts of organized retail theft over $1,500, two felony counts of organized retail theft, two felony counts of second-degree conspiracy, one felony count of possession of shoplifter tools, five counts of organized retail theft, thirteen counts of shoplifting under $1,500, five counts of third-degree conspiracy, and one count of criminal mischief. He is being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $17,211.76 secured bond.

The alleged accomplices in the vehicle are facing charges of third-degree conspiracy and receiving stolen property under $1.500. They were each released on $2,000 unsecured bonds. When the story was initially reported, the authorities reported that they were still searching for additional suspects they believed were connected to the thefts.
