Suspect Charged For Distributing Cocaine Out of Vermont Hotel

A man from Georgia was apprehended last week after it was allegedly discovered that he was selling large amounts of cocaine base out of a hotel room in Vermont.

Leroy Brown Jr. is a 41-year-old resident of McDonough, Georgia.

In December 2019, the Southeastern Vermont Drug Task Force began looking into Brown’s activities connected to drug sales taking place in a room at the Econo Lodge in Brattleboro, Vermont. Approximately one month later the F.B.I. teamed up with the agency in their efforts to uncover the purported suspicious acts taking place.

As noted in a release by the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont, at the end of January 2020 a “cooperating individual” posed as a purchaser and set up meetings with Brown.

The individual reportedly met with a man at the motel room registered to Brown on two separate occasions, and it was asserted that Brown was the party who had given drugs to the undercover during the preplanned transactions.

During the first alleged handoff, the authorities said they obtained 11 grams of cocaine base from a January deal, and another 9 grams during the following staged deal in February.

Brown was arrested for the allegation, and he was charged with multiple counts of cocaine base distribution. He was granted permission for his release, and the judge assigned specific conditions.

When she gave special mention and praise to the team responsible for the capture of the suspect in a press release, United States Attorney Christina E. Nolan also warned potential future offenders that the “attempt to profit from addiction or despair will be held accountable – in this time of emergency as always.”

If Brown is sentenced for the charges and given the maximum penalty he would receive a 20-year imprisonment for each count.
