Suspect Stuffed Pizza Dough with Razor Blades

After a Maine grocery store was notified about the purchase of pizza dough that reportedly contained razor blades, the man accused of the tampering was taken into custody.

At the beginning of October at the Saco location of the Hannaford Supermarket, an employee of the company received a report alleging that a customer bought Portland Pie brand pizza dough and found razor blades shoved inside the product after taking it home for use.

The authorities were notified about the consumer’s allegations.

The person reporting the incident said that after checking their in-house security camera footage, it was believed that they had figured out who had placed the sharp foreign objects in the dough.

The Saco Police Department purported that the suspect was 38-year-old Nicholas R. Mitchell, and it was asserted that the man had compromised the integrity of more than one package of the Portland Pie Pizza Dough.

Hannaford Supermarkets responded to the incident by choosing to stop offering all of the Portland Pie products in the entire chain of stores and said that customers who bought them in the past two and a half months would be eligible to get their money back.

A couple of hours following the report, the authorities learned that Mitchell was in Dover, New Hampshire, which is approximately an hour away from Saco.

With a warrant in hand, the police picked up and arrested Mitchell. He reportedly used to work for It’ll Be Pizza, and they manufacture the Portland Pie products.

It was reported that the authorities are not clear about what might have caused Mitchell’s alleged tampering with the dough, and the official charges have not been disclosed at this point in time.
