An Orange County man was arrested after allegedly following a woman off the bus and strangling her in what the authorities believe was a sexually motivated attack.
Just after midnight on September 8, a 19-year-old woman was a passenger on an OCTA bus. It was reported that she was returning home after working a shift at her job.
When the woman got off the bus, she began walking home and a man allegedly started to follow behind her.
According to reports, the man began caught up to her and began to choke the woman. It was also believed that he was trying to sexually assault her.
Someone walking past the scene asserted that there was a need for them to intervene, and when they became involved, the suspect ran off.
The authorities were notified about the situation, and they were able to locate and review a video showing a man they believed was the assailant as he was boarding the bus.
The police collected a description of the suspect, and it was noted that the man was wearing a Raiders cap and a dark green shirt.
During the investigation, the authorities decided to have an undercover officer take the same bus route that the suspect and woman were riding on the night of the alleged attack.
The undercover officer encountered a man wearing a Raiders cap, and it was posited that he was the suspect they were seeking. He was identified as a 23-year-old man who lives in Santa Ana.
The suspect was taken into custody and booked into the Orange County Jail. He is facing charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, and assault with the intent to commit a sex act. His bond was set at $1 million.
