Teen with Learner’s Permit Caught Driving Under the Influence

A Utah teenager is being held without bail after allegedly driving recklessly while under the influence and forcing the police to chase him while he drove over 120 MPH.

On September 13, an 18-year-old with a learner’s permit was driving a Dodge Charger with three passengers in the vehicle. He pulled into a Maverick gas station and parked in front of a pump. The car reportedly had no license plate, and it caught the attention of an officer from the Santaquin Police Department. As soon as the Charger left the parking lot, the officer got behind it and tried to initiate a traffic stop.

According to reports, instead of pulling over, the driver entered the onramp to I-15. The officer continued to follow, and he noted that the vehicle was being driven over 120 MPH. The driver entered an offramp, and the car slid down an embankment. The people in the automobile reportedly began running, but the police quickly caught them.

The driver was taken into custody and booked into the Utah County Jail. He is facing several preliminary charges including three misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence while younger than 21, one misdemeanor count of driving with passengers younger than 18, one misdemeanor count of reckless driving, one misdemeanor count of refusing a chemical test, and one misdemeanor count of interfering with a police officer. He was also accused of violation of a learner’s permit, failure to operate in a single lane, failure to use a turn signal, failure to register or expired vehicle registration, and interfering with a peace officer, all traffic violations. Currently, he is being held without bail.

The three passengers in the vehicle were also arrested.
