A Louisiana woman was recently arrested after authorities learned that she had allegedly tried multiple times to leave her 8-year-old son behind at different locations, according to police.
Authorities stated that officers in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, responded Sunday afternoon to a report about a child who had reportedly been left alone at a laundromat. Witnesses allegedly told officers that a woman drove away from the location and left the boy behind. Officers took the child into their care and brought him to the police station while they worked to locate his mother.
Officers spent time with the child and tried to make him comfortable while they attempted to find out where his mother had gone.
During the investigation, police reportedly learned that the laundromat incident was not the first time the woman had allegedly attempted to abandon the child that day. Authorities stated that she had earlier reportedly tried to leave the boy at a cemetery, but the child was able to get back into the vehicle before she left the area.
Police also alleged that the woman later attempted to leave the boy at a nearby farm. Authorities did not indicate how long the child remained at that location or whether anyone else was present at the time.
Investigators located the woman in Harvey, Louisiana, which is across the river from New Orleans, and she was taken into custody without incident.
The 43-year-old was arrested and booked on allegations of cruelty to juveniles, child desertion, and criminal abandonment.
According to jail records, she was being held at the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office without bond. Authorities stated that the child was reported to be safe following the incident.
