An intoxicated Florida woman was reportedly found driving a golf cart on the interstate with an open bottle of alcohol in her purse.
58-year-old Diane Hawk lives in Barefoot Bay, Florida.
Just before midnight on July 30, a semi-truck driver on I-95 saw someone driving a golf cart down the road. The truck driver believed that the person operating the cart was fading in and out of consciousness.
The woman driving the truck parked and tried to assist the woman driving the golf cart by encouraging her to pull over.
When the driver of the golf cart, later identified as Hawk, came to a stop on the shoulder, the semi driver was able to take possession of the keys.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol were sent to the location.
When they arrived, the troopers reportedly asked Hawk for identification, but the woman initially gave them a hard time. They also believed that she smelled like alcohol.
Hawk allegedly tried to give the officers a credit card as identification before handing over her driver’s license.
It was reported that Hawk told the officers that she was trying to travel to State Road 528.
The deputies encouraged Hawk to sit in the police car for her own safety, and the woman insisted on maintaining possession of her purse.
When they searched the contents of Hawk’s bag, the deputies reported that they discovered an opened bottle of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Fire.
According to reports, Hawk was not cooperating with the deputies, and they determined that it would be unsafe for her to try to take roadside sobriety tests.
Hawk was taken into custody and booked into the Brevard County Jail. According to the jail booking site, she may face charges of disorderly intoxication and resisting an officer without violence. Hawk was released on a $500 bond.
