The authorities reported that they were able to use Etsy as a tool in tracking down a woman accused of rioting during a protest where she allegedly torched two law enforcement vehicles.
On May 30, in alignment with many cities across the United States, it was reported that peaceful protests regarding George Floyd’s death were taking place in Philadelphia.
Late in the afternoon, it was reported that “civil unrest” began to break out in parts of the city where the protests were held.
One of the incidents reported during the Philadelphia troubles involved two police vehicles, one sedan, and one SUV, allegedly burned by a fire set by a woman present at the scene.
The authorities reported that they found recordings of the event as it took place, and they were able to get a decent description of the suspect including her visible tattoos, and a tee-shirt that said, “Keep the Immigrants Deport the Racists.”
A search on the internet revealed that the shirt was offered on an Etsy page and a woman that the police believed matched the physical description of the suspect had posted a comment in the review section on the seller’s site under the name Lore-Elisabeth.
A search for the name on the social media site LinkedIn displayed a Philadelphia massage therapist that was reportedly identified as 33-year-old Lore-Elisabeth Blumenthal.
The page was allegedly sporting videos of the woman, who had tattoos matching the ones seen in the recordings taken at the scene of the incident.
Using the telephone number on her LinkedIn site, the authorities found Blumenthal’s home address and took her into custody on June 16 for suspicion of arson.
The prosecution is asking that Blumenthal stay incarcerated until her trial takes place, and if she is found guilty of the charges she could spend 80 years in prison, and have to pay a fine of up to $500,000.
