A Connecticut woman was arrested last week after allegedly causing a wreck while driving under the influence with a 2-year-old in her car.
On the morning of February 24, a 35-year-old woman from East Hartford was driving on the Interstate with a 2-year-old in her vehicle. When she reached her exit and entered the ramp, the woman allegedly smashed into the back of another car. The authorities were notified, and state police troopers went to the location. When they arrived and inspected the site, they noted that no injuries were sustained by the people involved, and they believed the crash occurred because the woman failed to leave enough space between her car and the vehicle in front of her.
According to reports, when she talked to the troopers, the woman reportedly said she couldn’t stop fast enough to avoid hitting the other vehicle. The troopers believed she was acting as if she was intoxicated, and she allegedly performed poorly when taking roadside sobriety tests. Her vehicle was searched, and paraphernalia and substances believed to be crack and fentanyl were allegedly found. She reportedly admitted to using drugs before she got behind the wheel.
The woman was taken into custody and transported to Connecticut State Police Troop H. She is facing preliminary charges of illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, failure to drive at a reasonable distance apart- motor vehicle accident, use of drug paraphernalia, two counts of possession of a controlled substance (2nd offense), and risk of injury to a minor. It was reported that she was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
The Department of Children and Families was informed about the incident, and the youngster is currently being cared for by a relative.
