A man in central Florida was arrested for DUI when he was pulled over for speeding and the police found several beers in his truck.
Early in the morning on September 9, a man from Umatilla was driving a truck near his residence when he caught the attention of a deputy from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. According to reports, the posted speed limit was 45 MPH, but the deputy asserted that he was going 80 MPH. The deputy also reported that the vehicle was being operated unsafely and failed to stop at multiple stop signs. When the driver got into the same lane as the patrol car, he allegedly nearly crashed into it.
The deputy performed a traffic stop, and the driver pulled over without incident. When he began talking to the man, the deputy reported that he detected a strong smell of alcohol coming from his breath and that his eyes were reddened. After he got out of the truck, the man allegedly had trouble steadying himself. The driver was asked to take a roadside sobriety test, but he declined. He also refused to consent to a breath test.
Additional deputies came to the scene, and the man’s vehicle was searched. It was reported that a cooler with a beer in it was found, and empty beer cans littered the floor in the back of the truck. The deputies also allegedly discovered an open beer in the cup holder.
The 33-year-old was placed under arrest and booked into the Marion County Jail on suspicion of one count of driving under the influence of alcohol, a misdemeanor. His car was towed from the scene, and he was released from custody later that day.
