A Delaware man was arrested on multiple charges last weekend after allegedly driving under the influence with five passengers who were injured when his vehicle crashed.
Late in the evening on September 26, a 27-year-old man was driving his Ford Edge in Greenwood. He had four passengers in the vehicle with him: a 27-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman from Milton, two 19-year-old men, and a 6-year-old. According to reports, he lost control of the SUV, and it veered off the road and rolled multiple times. When the authorities were notified, Delaware State Police troopers went to the site.
When the troopers arrived, the vehicle was found in a ditch. Two passengers were thrown from the SUV during the accident, and the individuals from Milton, who were still inside, were badly injured. They, in addition to the other passengers, were taken to the hospital. The driver did not go to the hospital, but medical techs treated his wounds at the scene.
When the man talked to the troopers, they believed he was behaving in a manner that suggested he could be intoxicated. He reportedly agreed to take a roadside sobriety test, but it was reported that he did not do well.
The man was taken into custody, and he is being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution. He is facing multiple preliminary charges, including three felony counts of vehicular assault in the second degree, two felony counts of vehicular assault in the first degree, one count each of endangering the welfare of a child while driving under the influence, driving under the influence, and driving while license is suspended or revoked. He is also charged with several traffic offenses. At the time this was written, he was being held in lieu of a $10,402 secured bond.
