Good Samaritan Carjacked While Helping with Roadside Flat

When a man pulled over to help a driver with a flat tire on the side of the road, the allegedly stolen SUV he was riding in was heisted while he was distracted.

21-year-old Shamari J. Reid resides in Bowie, Maryland.

Just after midnight on March 10, Reid was a passenger in a Toyota RAV4 being driven by his friend.

As they traveled down a road in Montgomery County, Reid and the driver came across a young man that appeared to be stuck on the side of the road with a flat tire.

The pair decided to pull over, and Reid told the man that they could offer their assistance if needed.

After the man accepted their help, Reid and his buddy began working on the tire.

In what might be considered an ironic twist of fate, the driver of the impaired vehicle reportedly jumped into the allegedly stolen RAV4.

While reportedly driving away, the man threw the SUV in reverse and collided with a curb before he could flee.

Reid and his friend allegedly ran up to the disabled RAV4, and Reid reportedly confronted the driver with a gun.

When officers from the Montgomery County Police Department arrived, they identified the man who allegedly tried to drive off in the vehicle as 19-year-old Tykel Wilson. They also discovered the man had an active warrant out for his arrest.

A gun was reportedly located in the wooded area near the scene, and the authorities asserted it was the handgun Reid used in the alleged threat against Wilson.

Reid and Wilson were taken into custody and transported to the Central Processing Center.

Reid is expected to face charges for illegal possession of a handgun, and he was released on a $5,000 bond.

Wilson, who was charged for more than one theft of a motor vehicle offense, was freed on a $3,000 bond.
