Jail-Seeking Florida Man Slammed into Police Car

A Florida man allegedly purposely entered an Interstate construction zone and crashed into a parked police vehicle with the purported intent of going to jail.

25-year-old Tate Turner is from Boca Raton, Florida.

Early in the morning on June 15, it was reported that Turner left home in a white Subaru Outback. He reportedly planned to drive to Hallandale Beach, which is approximately 30 miles from Boca Raton.

Just before 1:30 AM, Turner was traveling on Interstate 95 close to where it intersects with Interstate 595.

A construction worksite taking up four lanes was marked by cones and signs on the opposite side of the Interstate. An off-duty trooper was on detail, and their police vehicle, which reportedly had its flashers blinking, was parked inside the blocked-off construction zone.

According to reports, Turner abandoned his idea of going to Hallandale. He turned his vehicle around and headed back in the direction of Boca Raton.

Turner allegedly noticed the parked police vehicle on the construction site. He reportedly intentionally busted through the cone barrier and slammed into the rear of the trooper’s car with his SUV.

The trooper, who was injured, walked up to the Subaru to speak with the driver and he identified Turner.

The man allegedly sat silently for a few moments. Turner then allegedly said he caused the crash because he wanted to be incarcerated. He reportedly explained that he “felt like he was already in jail,” and that a bunch of factors contributed to him feeling this way.

It was asserted that Turner was not under the influence of narcotics or alcohol, and the authorities do not believe he has mental conditions.

Turner was taken into custody and booked into the Broward County Main Jail. He is expected to face charges of two counts of felony aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. He was also given a citation for allegedly breaking traffic laws.
