On the evening of April 10, 29-year-old Justin Lorrison was reportedly experiencing a run of bad luck.
The man was asked to leave his grandmother’s home for an undisclosed reason.
Lorrison headed out to seek shelter for the night, and he reportedly went to a woman’s residence to ask her for a place to stay.
As he argued with the woman, who tried to give him $100 to get a motel room, Lorrison allegedly threatened to light her house on fire.
Lorrison refused to take the money she offered, and he drove off.
Before he left the premises, Lorrison allegedly threw his car into reverse and smashed into the alleged victim’s vehicle. The car was reportedly totaled.
The woman notified the authorities, and the police went to her home to take her statement about the incident.
Additional officers drove around to try to locate Lorrison.
A short time later, the authorities learned that a vehicle matching the description of Lorrison’s was seen veering off the road and landed in a retention pond next to a local school.
When the police went to the pond, they reported that Lorrison stood on the car as it submerged under the water.
The car disappeared under the surface, and Lorrison allegedly ditched something the authorities believed to be a bag.
The man reportedly stayed in the water and put off swimming back to dry land for a short time before he paddled back to the place that the officers and several spectators were standing.
When Lorrison reached the shore, the Casselberry Police Department took him into custody. He was booked into the Seminole County Jail, and he is expected to face charges for suspicion of DUI, reckless driving, and hit-and-run involving property damage.
According to jail records, Lorrison is being held on a $1,500 bond.
