59-year-old Jeffrey Randall, a purported fan of sports, used to live in Massachusetts, and now resides in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Around 8:30 pm on December 12, Randall was spending time with a friend that he had invited to his home.
While the pair were hanging out, the discussion between the two went in the direction of which sports teams each of the men support.
When Randall expressed favor for sports teams that hail from Boston, his friend did not have the same opinion, and the conversation reportedly began to intensify.
The men reportedly continued to argue about the teams, and Randall allegedly got physical by shoving his friend in the chest area two times.
The St. Petersburg police were notified, and they noted in the police report that the alleged victim “is partially disabled and unable to defend himself.” They additionally reported that it did not appear as if the incident “cause[d] bodily harm” to the alleged victim, but asserted that the event was intentional.
The authorities surmised that Randall had become overly aggressive, and he was placed under arrest for allegedly battering his friend in his insistence that his preferred sports teams were superior.
Randall was booked into the Pinellas County Jail. He is expected to face charges for the alleged battery, which reportedly did not leave the other party injured.
Randall, who reportedly has several prior convictions for various charges, was released the following day on his own recognizance.
