Woman Arrested After Walmart Attack on Elderly Shopper

A Florida woman was taken into custody weeks after the authorities investigated an altercation at a Walmart that allegedly involved an elderly shopper being pushed and struck while standing in line.

According to an arrest affidavit, the incident occurred on January 23 at a store located in Sunrise. Investigators later reviewed surveillance footage, which reportedly supported the account given by the 79-year-old woman involved in the confrontation.

The situation allegedly began as a dispute inside the customer service line. Witnesses, including a store security guard, told the authorities that the suspect became upset and accused the older woman of hitting her shopping cart while a baby was inside. The older woman reportedly denied ever making contact with the cart.

During the exchange, the suspect allegedly moved ahead in line. When the older woman addressed the issue, the confrontation reportedly turned physical. The suspect allegedly pushed the woman and struck her in the chest. As store personnel attempted to intervene, the suspect was also accused of kicking the woman in the hip.

Although the alleged victim did not report injuries, she reportedly chose to pursue charges. The suspect left the store before the authorities arrived, but investigators later identified her through their follow-up efforts.

During an interview with the authorities, the woman allegedly admitted she had been involved in a verbal dispute and claimed she believed the older shopper had acted aggressively toward her and the child. However, the authorities said video evidence did not support that claim. After reviewing the footage, the suspect reportedly acknowledged her perception of the situation was inaccurate and apologized.

The woman was later arrested and charged with battery on a person 65 years or older. She was transported to the Broward County Jail and subsequently posted a $2,500 bond, according to records.
