Baby with Drugs in System Went into Cardiac Arrest

According to the sheriff’s office, the mother of a two-year-old and a male suspect were taken into custody on many charges after the toddler went into cardiac arrest with narcotics in his system.

On January 4, a 23-year-old mom and a man, also 24, were at their home in Marion, North Carolina. The woman’s 2-year-old son was also at the residence.

It was reported that the youngster went into cardiac arrest.

The authorities were notified. The police and an emergency medical crew went to the home.

When they arrived, the medical team took the child and his mother to a nearby hospital.

According to reports, a detective at the residence wanted to discuss the situation with the man, but he allegedly refused to cooperate. It was believed that he had taken narcotics. The man reportedly hit the officer and tried to run away.

When he was detained, the man, whose relationship to the mother and child has not yet been disclosed, was placed under arrest. He was taken to the magistrate’s office, and while he was there, he had what the police described as “a medical emergency.” While they were trying to help the man, he allegedly struck one of the deputies.

He is expected to face charges of assault on a government official, resisting a public officer, felony assault by strangulation, felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver scheduled II controlled substance, felony maintaining a dwelling place for a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony negligent child abuse-severe bodily injury, child abuse, and felony attempt to escape from county confinement. He is being held on a $130,000 secured bond.

The youngster’s mother was arrested on suspicion of felony negligent child abuse- severe bodily injury and child abuse. She was incarcerated in lieu of a $75,000 secured bond.

It was reported that the hospital tests revealed the presence of narcotics in the toddler’s system, and the medical staff asserted that the drugs caused the cardiac episode.
