Bride Killed When She and Husband Hit by Drunk Driver

As a newlywed couple left their wedding reception, an allegedly drunk and speeding driver plowed into the golf cart they were in, leaving the bride deceased and the groom seriously injured.

On April 28, a 34-year-old woman and her beau were married in a ceremony in Folly Beach, South Carolina. Afterward, they attended their reception until approximately 10:00 PM.

When the couple departed from the venue in which the celebration took place, they were riding on the back of a golf cart that was legal for road travel and had proper lights. Two of their family members were seated in the front section of the cart.

The posted speed limit on the South Carolina beach road on which they were traveling is 25 MPH.

According to reports, a vehicle came speeding up behind the golf cart and smashed into the back. It was estimated that the car was traveling at 65 MPH. The cart was thrown over 100 yards, and it rolled many times before it came to a stop.

The authorities responded to the wreck, and they reported that the bride was dead. Her new husband was seriously injured, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The woman driving the car was allegedly under the influence, and she was taken into custody and booked into the Charleston County jail. She is facing charges of three counts of felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury and/or death and reckless homicide.

If she is found guilty and convicted, the suspect could be sentenced to up to 25 years in prison for each DUI charge. She is currently being held without bond.

The groom is still in the hospital where he is recovering from several broken bones and a brain injury. He had one surgery, and it is expected that he will need more.
