An allegedly drunk driver was taken into custody on suspicion of several charges after he reportedly crashed his vehicle and endangered his children during a custody exchange.
On October 9, just after 10:00 AM, a 32-year-old man from Oroville, California, was taking his children to a residence in Paradise to drop them off with their other parent.
While the father was driving with the kids, his car reportedly struck an unattended parked vehicle.
Immediately after the crash, the man reportedly continued his journey to his destination.
When he arrived and exchanged custody of the children, an incident occurred that resulted in someone placing a call to the authorities.
The caller reported to the Paradise Police Department that someone was disturbing the peace, and officers went to the address to investigate the situation.
When the officers arrived, they noted that the man had already left the location. When they collected information about the incident, it was reported to the police that the man was drunk.
They were given a description of his vehicle, and when the officers were patrolling, they saw a car they believed belonged to the suspect.
The officers performed a traffic stop, and when they began to talk to the man, they asserted that he smelled like he had been drinking.
The man’s BAC was tested with a breathalyzer, and the results were not reported but they allegedly registered that was more than three times the legal limit.
The authorities learned that the man was on probation, and one of the conditions was that he was not allowed to drink alcohol.
The suspect was placed under arrest and booked into the Butte County Jail. He is expected to face charges for child endangerment, vandalism, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood-alcohol concentration above 0.8, and violation of probation.
