Fleeing Theft Accomplice Hit Officer with Vehicle

A woman accused of driving the getaway car for an alleged package thief reportedly struck a police officer with her car while trying to escape during her detainment.

On the afternoon of December 4, 26-year-oldĀ Megan Rozak was reportedly driving around a residential neighborhood with 38-year-old Stephan Wisnewski in the passenger seat.

The Lynwood Police Department received a complaint from someone saying that they could see package thieves in the process of stealing from nearby porches.

When officers went to the area reported, they said they saw a man taking packages off a porch.

An officer approached and identified the man as Wisnewski, and he was handcuffed and arrested while the second officer walked over to the vehicle to speak with Rozak.

When trying to tell Rozak that she needed to step out of the car, the officer reported that the woman drove away and hit him with her vehicle as she fled.

While police were in pursuit of Rozak, she allegedly drove for a short distance before deciding to abandon the vehicle and continuing her alleged escape by running away.

The Lansing Police Department sent backup to help catch her, and Rozak was detained shortly after.

Rozak was placed under arrest and booked into the Cook County Jail without bond. She is facing charges for suspicion of first-degree attempted murder of a police officer and aggravated battery of a police officer with great bodily harm.

Wisnewski was also booked into the county jail, and he is facing charges for suspicion of theft and fraud. He is being held on a $10,000 bond.

The officer that was struck by the car was given medical assistance at the scene until he was transported and admitted to the hospital. It was reported that he has been released and he is healing from the injuries he sustained.
