When the police reportedly discovered a felon from Florida passed out behind the wheel in the middle of traffic, they allegedly found several types of drugs and a loaded rifle in the truck he was driving.
Just after midnight on March 29, a man in a Chevy Silverado was driving through an intersection in Brooksville when he allegedly fell asleep. The truck was stopped in the middle of the road blocking traffic.
Someone notified the authorities about the situation, and deputies from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Department went to the location to investigate.
The man driving the truck was reportedly still unconscious with the vehicle stopped in the intersection when the deputies arrived. Upon closer inspection, it was noted that the truck was still in drive.
After putting the truck in park, medics were notified so they could check on the man’s physical condition.
According to reports, the deputies spotted something they believed was drug paraphernalia, and they searched through the man’s vehicle. They allegedly found many illegal items including a Summerville American Tactical 22 rifle loaded with eight rounds, approximately 9.8 ounces (about 277 grams) of a substance believed to be marijuana, 5.7 grams of methamphetamine, five Oxycodone pills, and .4 grams of fentanyl.
The suspect declined to talk to the police, and he was placed under arrest and booked into the Hernando County Detention Center. He is expected to face charges on suspicion of four counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, two counts of possession of weapon/ammunition by a convicted felon, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
It was reported that since the man has two additional ongoing criminal cases in two additional counties, the authorities proposed that he should have his bond revoked.
