An officer with the Topeka VA reportedly got into a domestic dispute with a woman while off duty and allegedly pointed his gun at her head during the argument.
Alexander Morris Harris, 43, is a Topeka VA police officer. According to reports, he was recently demoted. Harris stood with other officers to support the claims that the VA of Eastern Kansas uses discriminatory practices toward their employees. It was also reported that Harris has been having financial problems since his demotion.
It was reported that Harris was at a Topeka residence with a woman early in the morning on July 24.
Harris and the woman reportedly began to argue. The reason for the alleged malcontent has not been disclosed at this time, but according to reports, another off-duty officer was present during the dispute.
When things allegedly escalated, Harris reportedly pointed his gun in the direction of the woman, and it was asserted that he intended to aim it at her.
According to reports, the other officer saw the incident as it took place.
The authorities were notified, and officers from the Topeka Police Department went to the residence to investigate the reported situation. They determined that Harris was the aggressor in the domestic unrest.
At approximately 3:00 am, Harris was taken into custody and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. He may face charges for aggravated assault, use of a deadly weapon, domestic battery, and knowing or reckless bodily harm to family/dating relationship for the second time over five years. Harris was incarcerated in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
According to records from the Department of Corrections, Harris has a court date of September 14 regarding the allegations.
