Sergeant with 3x Legal BAC Threatened Arresting Deputy

A Florida Department of Corrections sergeant was arrested after reportedly threatening the deputy who arrested him for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol with three times the legal blood-alcohol content.

Early in the evening on March 18, a corrections sergeant at the Polk Correctional Institution in Polk City was driving his Honda Civic when he was in an accident involving only his vehicle. He reportedly struck a guardrail.

Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Department went to the crash site and the sergeant was identified as the person who was in the wreck.

The man was sitting on the hood of the car and no longer in the vehicle. The police reported that he showed several signs of being highly intoxicated, such as being unable to properly stand up and having the smell of alcohol on his breath.

The deputies at the scene reported that they did not try to conduct roadside sobriety tests because they were worried for the safety of the sergeant in his alleged state of drunkenness.

According to reports, the sergeant was taken to the processing center where they conducted tests of his blood-alcohol content. The results of the breathalyzer tests were .265 and .260.

The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and he allegedly threatened a deputy by telling them “Don’t worry, your time is coming. I’ll see you on the inside, I work for the DOC.”

After he was medically cleared, the man, who has previously had legal troubles over resisting arrest and battery on a law enforcement officer, was booked into the Polk County Jail. He may face charges of DUI with property damage, DUI with breath alcohol of .15 or higher, and threatening a public servant.

According to reports, he was held without bail pending an initial court appearance.
