According to reports, a car was recently reported stolen from someone who gave the authorities a physical description of the person they believed took the vehicle. On the afternoon of June 22, Lexington police spotted what they believed was the stolen car being driven by someone fitting the description provided by the alleged victim. When they tried to pull him over, things reportedly became complicated when the man allegedly tried to get away. After reportedly turning the wrong way on a one-way street, he slammed into the side of another vehicle, and the driver was taken to the hospital. The suspect allegedly took off on foot and was caught behind a nearby residence.
The man, whom the police alleged smelled strongly of alcohol, reportedly said he smoked something from a pipe that was found in the vehicle, but was unsure what it was. He was taken to a nearby hospital for assessment and treatment, and while there, the suspect reportedly refused to consent to a blood test for drug screening.
After he was released from the hospital, the suspect was booked into the Fayette County Detention Center in lieu of a $10,000 cash bond. He is facing several preliminary charges, including first-degree driving a vehicle under the influence, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree fleeing or evading the police in a motor vehicle, third-degree fleeing or evading the police, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident without rendering aid, buying or possessing drug paraphernalia, and theft by unlawful taking in an amount over $1,000 and under $10,000.
