A student who attends high school in northwest Florida is facing legal and academic penalties after an alleged fight with a staff member turned physically violent.
On the afternoon of September 18, students from Lincoln High School in Tallahassee headed to the cafeteria during their lunch break. A woman who works as a hall monitor at the school was scolding two female students over behaving disrespectfully, and the woman used her phone to snap a picture of the girls. She told them she took the photo so she could show it to their basketball coach as proof of their unacceptable behavior.
One of the girls reportedly tried to take the woman’s phone out of her hand, and the situation began to escalate. A brawl between the student and the hall monitor broke out, and they both ended up on the floor. According to reports, the hall monitor was seen kicking the student in the head until other students stepped in and tried to separate the pair. The girl began walking away, and the hall monitor allegedly grabbed her by the hair. The student reportedly started punching the woman.
School resource officers were notified about the incident, and they immediately went to the cafeteria to see what was going on.
The student was arrested and transported to the Leon Juvenile Detention Center. She could face charges of attempted robbery by sudden snatching and battery of a school official for the incident. She is also in danger of being expelled from the school. The hall monitor was placed on administrative leave, and at this time she is not facing criminal charges. The sheriff’s office and the school district are still actively investigating the case, and they were able to obtain a video of part of the altercation.
