Suspect Left Home Ablaze with Two Women Inside

A woman in an alleged dispute with her roommates reportedly set the living room curtains on fire and walked out, leaving two females in the house who were unaware that she had done so.

30-year-old Bridget Avonelle Cozort is from Kopperston, West Virginia. She has recently been residing with two women in a home in Wyoming County.

On May 21, Cozort was reportedly told that she would need to find another place to live.

The day after she was informed of her upcoming unexpected move, as Cozort was walking out of the house she allegedly set the curtains in the living room on fire. Her two roommates were reportedly inside the home, and they were unaware that she had lit the blaze.

When the women discovered the fire, they ran outside and notified the authorities.

The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office was sent to the residence, and firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before they spread outside of the living room area.

The authorities opened an investigation regarding the alleged attempted arson.

In the evening on May 28, Cozort was taken into custody for reasons unrelated to the fire, and she was booked into the Southern Regional Jail.

Marshals investigating the incident determined that there was enough probable cause to assert that she was the person who had set the curtains on fire in the home.

On June 9, while Cozort was still being held from the prior arrest, she was charged with arson and attempted murder. Her bond was set at $100,000.

Neither of the women who were inside the home during the fire was reported as suffering from any physical injuries from the incident.
