Uncooperative DUI Suspect Headbutted Detention Officer

A Montana man reportedly driving with a missing license plate light was pulled over and accused of driving under the influence, and he allegedly became violent and headbutted a detention officer.

On October 7, a 23-year-old man was driving a Silverado in Missoula, and one of the license plate lights was reportedly missing. A deputy with the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office saw the vehicle and performed a traffic stop.

When the deputy began to talk to the driver, he reportedly smelled alcohol and believed the man might be intoxicated. The man reportedly told the deputy that he drank one beer. When asked for his license and registration, the driver reportedly said he only had a learner’s permit.

He got out of the vehicle and took roadside sobriety tests, and the deputy reported that he failed almost every one of the exercises. The breathalyzer registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.152.

The suspect, who was reportedly uncooperative during the encounter, got angry when he learned he was being arrested. He allegedly told the officers to cuff him quickly because he was going to “get real pissed off” and incur additional charges.

According to reports, when he was cuffed, deputies began to lead him to the police vehicle when he allegedly started to struggle. He reportedly stiffened his body to try to prevent them from placing him in the vehicle and made verbal threats to the deputies.

He was booked into the Missoula County Jail and is facing preliminary charges for felony attempted assault on a peace officer, felony assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, and DUI. While at the facility, he allegedly threatened the detention officers and headbutted one of them in the face.
