Woman Crashed into Store after Drinking Half a Bottle of Whiskey

During a married couple’s visit to Florida for a job opportunity, the pair found themselves behind bars after a disagreement that reportedly resulted in the woman driving drunk and crashing into a store.

On the morning of August 26, the man and his wife, from Elizabeth City, North Carolina, were in Big Pine Key regarding a potential job. Just after 7:30 AM, they stopped at Coconuts Bar & Liquor Store where the woman bought a bottle of Crown Royal whiskey. According to reports, she went back to the truck, and within approximately five minutes she polished off half of the bottle. Her husband was displeased with the way she quickly chugged the liquor, and they started arguing. After they moved the dispute out of the vehicle things reportedly got physical, and the man allegedly hit her.

The woman climbed into the driver’s seat and stepped on the gas pedal, and the vehicle smashed into the store and damaged the building. The authorities were notified, and the woman was still in the truck when they arrived. It was reported that a deputy noticed the vehicle was stuck in place, but it still appeared to be in drive.

She stepped out of the truck, and the deputy noted that the woman smelled like she had been drinking. She was also allegedly unsteady on her feet. It was determined that she was under the influence, and she was given a breath test. The woman reportedly spat on the officer and then fell onto the floor and clutched his pant leg until he used “mechanical compliance” to make her let go.

She was booked into the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office’s Key West Jail on preliminary charges of one felony count of battery on a law enforcement officer, one felony count of resisting arrest with violence, and two misdemeanor DUI charges. Her husband is also being held in the county lockup on suspicion of misdemeanor battery.
