Woman Faked Own Abduction over College Graduation

A Jeanette, Pennsylvania woman is facing charges after reportedly faking her own disappearance.

At around 10:30 PM on May 1, a 23-year-old woman who works at Sonic left at the end of her work shift and drove home one of her coworkers in her Volkswagen Beetle.

According to reports, when the woman was on her way to her home, she sent a text message to her boyfriend telling him that she was being pulled over by the police. She mentioned that she was unsure about why it was happening.

No one saw or heard from her since the text, and her boyfriend found her car abandoned near Route 66 the following day.

When her disappearance was reported to the authorities, a Missing Endangered Person Advisory was enacted.

Later that day, the girl went to the home of a neighbor and reportedly said someone had kidnapped and assaulted her at gunpoint before dropping her off at home.

When the woman told the story to the police, they let her know that her account did not fit the narrative of the evidence they had collected. She allegedly admitted she made the story up.

The police learned that the woman was supposed to graduate from Penn State Greater Allegheny the following weekend, but it was discovered that she had not been enrolled for over a year.

The pressure of college expectations can cause a high level of stress, and the authorities stated that the woman’s school situation was “probably the number one driving force for the whole scenario.”

The woman was booked into the Westmoreland County Prison. She is facing charges of false alarm to a public safety agency, false reports, disorderly conduct, and obstruction of the administration of law.

She was released from custody the following morning.
