A Utah man was arrested for several charges after a DUI stop reportedly revealed he provided a juvenile with liquor, and then allegedly attacked the teen.
Just before 7:30 a.m. on October 25, a man from Washington City was in St. George, and when he got into his vehicle a bystander believed he was intoxicated. The other person notified the authorities, and officers from the St. George Police Department went to the location to investigate.
When approaching the vehicle, it was reported that an open can of beer was on the street next to it. The police assumed that the can belonged to the driver of the car, who was reportedly climbing out of the passenger’s side when they got there.
The man was allegedly unsteady on his feet, and the officer asked him to consent to a roadside sobriety test. He reportedly could not stand upright to perform the exercises.
An underage male walked up to the scene and alleged that the man was his driver from a ride service he was using the prior evening. The teenager reportedly said the man assaulted him when they got to his destination, and that his backpack and cell phone were taken by the suspect.
The officers looked at injuries present on both, and they believed they could have been created by a scuffle on the road. When they searched the suspect’s belongings, the police reportedly found the cell phone and backpack that the teen said he swiped.
The man was taken into custody and booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility. He is facing preliminary charges of one felony count of robbery, one misdemeanor count of DUI, and one misdemeanor count of furnishing alcohol to a minor. According to reports, he is being held without bail.
