Florida Man Arrested For Swiping Single Roll of Toilet Paper

A man in Clearwater was taken into custody and charged with a felony after he allegedly grabbed and made off with a roll of toilet paper from a pack left in a truck parked at a residence.

While people appear to be stocking up on bathroom tissue in the middle of the current novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, a resident in Clearwater, Florida reported that a 6-pack left in a vehicle parked at their home inspired someone to break into the truck and help themselves to a roll without permission.

The alleged victim’s doorbell video surveillance camera caught footage of a person who appeared to be male and wearing a grey sweatshirt with a hood.

When the authorities were notified, the truck owner said that they left the door of the vehicle unlocked and the video depicted a person opening up the door and taking toilet paper out of the multi-roll pack before the suspect took off.

Around 1:30 am, the police saw a man a few blocks away from the site of the reported toilet paper theft who appeared to match the description of the man seen in the surveillance video.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Safraz Shakoor, was near his home when he was approached by the police.

The jacket the suspect was reportedly wearing was inspected and a roll of toilet paper was allegedly found stuffed into one of the pockets.

Shakoor, who was reported as not currently employed, was taken to the county jail and charged for suspicion of felony burglary. He is being held in lieu of a $5000 bond, and upon his release, it was ordered that he is not allowed to have any contact with the alleged victim.

The value of the allegedly stolen item was assessed at $1.
